Reading Quest 3

---- Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants
This chapter section talked about how people have just begun learning the new learning ways for students of today.  The ways that these new students are learning is now in the digital age of for this next generation.  Not only are the younger age people that have been growing up in the digital years are learning how to cope with how to learn new things, it is also very important for the older age group as well.  The older generation seems to be more stead fast to hold on to old ways of learning, they also do not fully understand the new concept of learning through other means such as TV or video games.  In fact, there are video games out that teach students in a few areas like math, engineering, and so forth.
---- Do They Really Think Differently
This chapter section is talking more in depth about the differences in the learning abilities for younger kids or teens, compared the learning abilities for the parents or teachers.  They go on talking about how there have been scientific and health studies on the brain that have shown a fair amount of evidence that backs up the research done to show that the brains form differently due to the outside learning environment. Attention spans seem to play a big part in this as well, for the young generation, it is hard to stay focused on a subject that they are not interested in.  So they tend to want a quicker way out or more efficient way of keeping their interest.  For this reason, they tend to want a quick access to information they want right away in a way that catches their eye, then they take interest.
---- The Internet
This chapter section points out the views on how the internet has affected our information obtaining ability and how we go about it.  One of the forms of sustained online activity forms that people use is messaging.  Messaging can be sent to most anyone using the internet by sending photos, movies, documents, or even a short message.  It was mostly used by professional writers in the beginning, but as the time passed and people became more familiar with the internet, more and more common people were able to use it to their advantage.  Communication seemed to change.  Since the internet was presented, communication sped up dramatically.  Making a very fast communication source for most people and also the accessibility for people became more popular for using this form of communication as their choice.
---- Learning Theory, Video Games, and Popular Culture
This chapter was describing the huge affect on the younger generation for their attention towards video games.  The mental ability to play a video game has turned out to be complex and in some ways fun.  Being able to submerse yourself into a video game is like having yourself go through a real life scenario where you have the opportunity so solve problems and do it in a way where you have to do it to your own satisfaction.  This helps since the video game is a visual and audio representation of what you are doing at the time which gets the young generation involved with the video game process.  As you are in the video game, you learn to see the world of each different game that is played in different way with your virtual character.  When the task is completed, a big sense of accomplishment is felt where they were able to solve the problem.  This video game learning is still in question since it is only begun for a new learning method for students and teachers to think about teaching.
